When the tool evolves faster than our ability to frame it

Artificial intelligence is advancing at an impressive pace. It is now part of our everyday lives.

Capable of reasoning, analyzing, writing and carrying out a wide range of tasks, it is quickly becoming embedded in our professional practices.

The question is no longer whether we use AI.

The question is how quickly it is evolving… and how much time we are taking to think about how we are truly integrating it into our practices.

In just a few months, tools that could simply assist us have become capable of reasoning, producing, simulating complex responses and performing tasks that were once reserved for humans. And this acceleration shows no sign of slowing down.

It is transforming practices, changing norms and eliminating certain tasks. That is why it is important to draw a line around what we want this tool to do. It should support and amplify, not replace.

This is precisely where ethical reflection becomes essential. Because without a framework or ethical reflection, AI risks becoming something other than a tool.


AI can be a powerful lever

Used intelligently, it acts as an extension of our capabilities. It helps us structure our thinking, save time on repetitive tasks and improve the quality of certain deliverables. It makes us more efficient, faster and, at times, even more precise.

But when used without perspective, it can also standardize practices, flatten communication and create an illusion of control.

In talent acquisition, this tension is already very visible.

On the candidate side, AI is increasingly being used to write résumés, prepare answers and structure messages. On paper, everyone looks excellent. Career paths are coherent, the wording is precise, and intentions are well articulated. Sometimes too well.

This standardization makes evaluation more difficult. It becomes harder to read candidates’ experiences, skills and true depth authentically. When everything is well said, well written and well presented, reading between the lines becomes more complex.

Because evaluation at this stage relies mainly on the résumé and initial exchanges, we save time on document review, but often need to invest more in preliminary conversations to truly understand candidates.

On paper, some profiles become almost interchangeable. Differentiation no longer happens through reading, but through conversation.
 

A human-first approach

AI is also making its way into recruiters’ practices. It helps us prepare outreach, analyze profiles, structure communications and refine strategies.

But here again, the balance is delicate.

A message that is too perfect, too polished or too sophisticated can quickly reveal the use of a tool. Candidates notice it, sometimes faster than we might think. And they say so.

Some recruiters already report having been accused, wrongly, of being AI or of systematically using automated tools for their outreach messages. The phenomenon is still recent, but it points to a form of collective fatigue around certain uses of AI.

Between overly perfect images, mass-generated content and deepfake videos circulating on social media, mistrust is growing quickly.

Paradoxically, we now find ourselves having to simplify our language, tone down our style and appear less “perfect” in order to remain credible and human.

This shift is particularly interesting.

It reminds us that the value is not in the perfection of the text, but in the accuracy of the tone, the sincerity, the personalization of the approach and the ability to create a real connection.

AI can help structure the message, but the relationship remains human. And that is something no tool can yet simulate perfectly.
 

AI as a real driver of efficiency

That said, it would be dishonest to deny the concrete gains AI brings.

In certain contexts, AI clearly improves the quality of work. Interview note-taking, for example, becomes more reliable. Transcriptions reduce interpretation bias, limit omissions and make it possible to return to the exact information. The time savings are tangible, and the increased precision benefits both the recruiter and the client.

Used in this specific way, AI strengthens the quality of the work without distorting its purpose. And that is exactly where AI finds its true value.

When it strengthens our analytical capacity, supports our thinking and frees up time for what truly creates value.

But this technological progress comes with responsibility.

However powerful they may be, AI tools can be wrong. They can produce errors, interpret information in questionable ways or suggest conclusions that lack context. Using them without vigilance, review and critical thinking would be a major strategic mistake.

That is why AI should never be used on autopilot.

It must remain a copilot.

Reviewing, questioning, validating and exercising judgment remain essential reflexes. AI can accelerate thinking, but it must never replace it.


The challenge of AI in talent acquisition is not technological. It is deeply human.

Between the speed of development and the responsibility of use, recruiters have a key role to play: that of guardians of the quality, ethics and credibility of the process.

This ethical reflection cannot afford to fall behind.

AI must remain a tool that extends us, not a substitute that erases us. And the faster it evolves, the more our ability to use it with discernment, judgment and responsibility will make all the difference.
