The key to a successful candidate approach is through a personalized message!

The candidate experience is enhanced, it benefits the employer branding, and your statistics will speak for themselves.

Of course, we could have come up with an exhaustive list of good and bad practices of everything you need to keep in mind to write a successful outreach message. Instead, we opted for simplicity and asked our Talent Sourcinc Experts to share their must-haves. Here are the team's top 3 Dos and Don'ts when it comes to writing your first approach messages:

DO’s:

Personalize as much as possible!

Making sure you put the candidate's name in your message is common knowledge. Make sure to also talk about their particular experience that caught your attention. Mention specifically why you are interested in their profile.

Personalize the subject line of your message too.

Only showcasing the position and company names in the title will not cut it. Be creative and adjust according to the job and the industry!

Keep it short and sweet.

People don't have time to read long messages anymore. Make sure you make it interesting and pique their interest quickly. Insert only the most important points. The rest can be discussed at the next step. A touch of humor can also help.

DON’TS :

When in doubt, step back.

Be careful not to be too familiar. Of course you can be humorous, but make sure it's tasteful. Be agile and adapt yourself depending on the company or the type of position. For example, your approach should not be the same for a programmer role as it is for a lawyer.

Don't fall into clichés.

Avoid using overly read phrases. Some examples:

  • "Join a dynamic team!" ;
  • "A competitive salary" ;
  • "This position is for you!" ;
  • “A great opportunity...".

Address the person as if you were talking to a good friend whom you greatly respect, giving him/her the right information about the role and the advantages of joining the company.

Proofread your message!

Make sure your message is addressed to the right person and that there are no typos in the name. Adapt the text and do a quick check of all the points you've customized.

It's simple: the more personalized your message is, the more likely you are to get a response. In a market where the labor shortage is increasingly felt and where many are being solicited from all sides, the key to your success will be to personalize your approach messages, guaranteed!
