Context
An industrial manufacturing company in the metallurgical sector was creating a dedicated Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) position for its plant in the Saguenay region. Until then, part of these responsibilities had been handled by the plant’s general management team, and the objective was to give the HSE function greater focus and structure. With a limited regional talent pool for specialized professionals, the company turned to our team to proactively identify and engage candidates with relevant industrial experience.

- Kim St-JeanSourcing & Talent Acquisition Expert
The search initially focused on HSE professionals located in the Saguenay region before expanding geographically to other industrial areas of Quebec, including the North Shore. During the project, our recruiter identified organizational changes taking place at major employers in the aluminum sector and used this market intelligence to target talent pools that could be more receptive to a new opportunity. The sourcing strategy also considered professionals with existing ties to the Saguenay region or potential reasons to relocate there, increasing the likelihood of mobility. This market-driven approach allowed the search to go beyond candidates already living within commuting distance of the plant.

Over four weeks, 69 Health, Safety and Environment professionals were approached, generating a 61% response rate. Eight professionals expressed interest in the opportunity and were qualified for the client. Expanding the geographic search proved instrumental: the successful candidate was working outside the Saguenay region and was interested in relocating closer to the area. The sourcing project resulted in a successful hire for this specialized position while also providing the client with greater visibility into the available HSE talent market.
